A Petit find in an Antique Shop

I found this amazing vintage handbag in an Antique Shop. It was tucked away at the back of a cupboard absolutely jammed full of other things. I think it's a treasure of a find.

The lady in the shop thought it was from the 1910's. I've done some research and think it's more 1930-1940 and possibly Hungarian. Of course, I may be completely wrong!

It's in such good condition. The only downside...it smells of someone else's perfume...which by now is a little musty... Hopefully that will fade in time.

The clasp works beautifully. Very solid click.

Inside there is a mirror and two pockets.

Just about room for your lipstick and money!

The reason I wanted to share it with you is it's covered with Petit Point tapestry.

It's beautiful craftsmanship. Sadly that's something we lose with mass-produced items.

Petit Point is very small stitches of single thread on cloth. Or it may be canvas.

The colours have have stayed so bright.

It's history intrigues me. Maybe there was a dance card or two tucked in the pockets?

I'm lucking forward to Mr C taking me out so I can show it off!

Until tomorrow,
Nic xx

  1. What a beautiful bag. Try sprinkling some bicarb of soda inside which should absorb the smell. x
